Zersetzung was a covert psychological disruption strategy used by East Germany’s secret police, the Stasi, during the Cold War. The term means “decomposition” and referred to the deliberate breakdown of a person's confidence, stability, and social relationships—without direct violence or arrest. Tactics ranged from subtle manipulations of the target’s environment to social sabotage, disinformation campaigns, and engineered isolation. The approach prioritized plausible deniability, making it difficult for the individual to prove they were being targeted. In contemporary contexts, some individuals who report sustained psychological or physical harassment refer to themselves as targeted individuals and describe experiences that bear similarities to historical Zersetzung tactics—such as persistent surveillance, social undermining, and staged incidents. Some also report exposure to directed energy, a term used to describe technologies that emit focused electromagnetic radiation, such as microwaves, radio frequencies, or infrared beams. In military and scientific applications, directed energy systems are real and have been developed for purposes ranging from crowd control (e.g., Active Denial Systems) to non-lethal weaponry and communication disruption. Reports by individuals who identify as targeted often describe symptoms such as sleep disruption, localized heating sensations, or cognitive effects, which they associate with prolonged or intermittent exposure to such technologies. While public documentation of directed energy use in civilian psychological operations is limited, its existence in defense research is well-established. As with Zersetzung, the uncertainty, ambiguity, and invisibility of these experiences can contribute significantly to psychological distress, particularly when individuals struggle to find acknowledgment or redress.

My first major graphic job! I was lucky enough to work on the set of the film Cardogs. These are some of the largest prints I have ever created. I got to work with a talented cast and crew Under the direction Artistic set directors Edward Bonutto and Scott Cobb. In addition to working on largest graphic prints the film I also had fun dressing the set.
